OUr patron saints
St. Joseph, Pillar of Families
St. Joseph's role in the gospels is rather limited but at the same time he is absolutely essential to the story of salvation. Without Joseph's courage to take Mary and Jesus into his home and to flee to Egypt with Jesus and Mary when warned in a dream. Jesus would never have been able to come to full manhood and proclaim the gospel, die for our sins, and be raised from the dead. Never saying a word in the gospels, St. Joseph's actions proclaim a selfless father that cared for, provided for, and defended the Holy Family.
Jesus would have learned the trade of carpentry from St. Joseph and given that fathers were expected to educate their children in the Jewish faith, St. Joseph would have been the first human teacher our Lord had in the Old Testament scriptures. It is because this example that St. Joseph is called in the Litany of St. Joseph, Pilar of Families. He stands as an example of fatherhood in our world that needs fathers more than ever. As the patron of Family of Parishes, St. Joseph, Pillar of Families represents an intercessor who pray not only on behalf of fathers but entire families and also, our Family of Parishes. St. Joseph is a spiritual pillar on which to build our Family of Parishes. St. Joseph, Pillar of Families will care for us, provide for us and defend us from the snares of the evil one as he did for the Holy Family. He will be there to guide us with his strength and gentleness that lovingly shows us the way to our Blessed Mother and Jesus' True Presence in the Eucharist.
